Google 2-Step Verification Makes it Harder to Hack Your WoW Account

Google Mail introduces a great new security feature that should stomp more than a few WoW account hackers.

Basically, Google Mail now has an optional feature that, when activated, permits entry to your e-mail only after providing the password and a randomly generated password sent through your mobile phone.

Your e-mail password got stolen? Don’t worry, your mobile phone is safe and therefore they can’t get past the second requirement. This is exactly how the Battle.net authenticator works.

Curly-haired guy does a better job explaining this than I ever will, so watch this video:

So how’s this all going to protect my WoW account?

Anyone who’s ever had his Battle.net-linked e-mail hacked knows how quickly this leads to an account theft. A hacker who breaks into your e-mail can then try to re-set the WoW account password and use the new password sent to gain full access to the account.

Then, hackers can go to town, selling WoW Gold and removing all dignity from your toons by turning them into SusanExpress-like chat spammers.

Google 2-step verification basically closes off this e-mail vulnerability – so that’s one thing less to worry about. But don’t think you’re 100% protected yet. That will never happen, especially if you keep on using the same passwords for your Battle.net login and other registration sites, and keep on clicking on suspicious links in e-mails.

So switch to Google Mail to up your security, but remember that there’s no better protection than constant vigilance.

Buy WoW Gold on Black Friday or Cyber Monday?

Black Friday and Cyber Monday are coming up and maybe you’re wondering which crazy shopping day will net you the best WoW Gold deals.

If you looked to me for answers to this most curious dilemma, then I’ll give it to you like straight shooting hunter: BLACK FRIDAY hands down.
I know this advice might seem counterintuitive since WoW Gold sellers are online stores, and Black Friday is more for retail shops and malls, but our wily sellers don’t follow the Internet herd on this one trend.

Based from my experience and current promos like these two from IGE.com and EpicToon.com:

WoW Gold sellers want to make a killing on both holidays and do so using one encompassing promo. This means bonuses and discounts typically start just before Black Friday and extend to Cyber Monday.

Cyber Monday loyalists might argue that prices tend to drop after the Black Friday rush, but in my experience this isn’t the case.

Besides, the ultimate goal of buying WoW Gold during this time is to have enough for raiding or leveling or however else you play for the rest of the long weekend.

There might be longer-than-usual queues when you shop during Black Friday, but the best WoW Gold sellers should be able to keep up with the demand. I mean they had a year to prepare for this annual bacchanalia of auction house shopping, so show no mercy when they give you the rote excuse of “We didn’t expect there would be so much demand. I’m sorry!”

Sorry my ungeared ass, as Remus and Cletus said.

AUBREY PLAZA HAS WORST BOYFRIEND IN THE WORLD

That’s the story of the new World of Warcraft ad featuring the geekily sexy Aubrey Plaza. In it, she wonders what to do with the game when all she asked for was diamonds.

Since this is a promotional ad, of course it ends with Aubrey trading the schmuck of a boyfriend for more play time. But it didn’t need to be that way. If only hypothetical boyfriend lavished her with WoW Gold.

This is a clear PSA for any and all boyfriends planning to gift World of Warcraft to their girlfriends this Thanksgiving. Never let them mine their own diamonds. That’s just asking to be dumped or, worse, to lose a potential guild recruit for the coming Patch 4.3 raids.

Priorities, kiddies. Play into the obsession of your girlfriends to prettify their toons with monocles or what-have-you. The trick is to get them invested. Then bam, a double win! Your girlfriend no longer nags you to to stop raiding because she’s actually filling up your last raid slot.

Just like in the real world – all it takes is a little pampering and you’ll get your way. Happy Thanksgiving kiddies!

Let’s Watch Chuck Norris Kick Ass as a Hunter

Whenever I’m in one of my scam-busting moods, one of my biggest inspirations is Chuck Norris. I channel his fighting spirit and proceed to take down the evil scum of WoW Gold sellers roaming the internet.

Now all I need to get inspired is click the replay button of the new WoW ad that’s going viral now. Chuck Norris, I am your humble disciple.

Newbies will think that Chuck Norris is just a running meme in World of Warcraft, but he’s one serious martial artist – probably one of the best ever caught on film. Some nerd facts you may not know about this American icon (thanks Wikipedia!):

  1. Chuck isn’t his real first name. It’s Carlos Ray.
  2. He was wasn’t born; he fought his way to freedom!
  3. He founded his own martial arts school called Chun Kuk Do, which teaches a hybrid fighting style focusing on kicks.
  4. His Chunk Kuk Do school has trained more than 3,000 black belts who will come after you if you mess with their founding master.

Of course, since Chuck Norris rolls a hunter – just like me – that same protection extends to our class now. Suck on that Remus and Cletus!

Yeah, yeah I know he didn’t really look like a hunter with all that punching and kicking. If anything, he looked was more like the upcoming Monks in Mists of Pandaria.

But who cares? He’s officially a hunter now, so people should think twice now before using the word huntard because you wouldn’t want to trash talk the real Chuck Norris. Except for WoW Gold spammers. I’d pay WoW Gold to see them get hit by his roundhouse combo.

Buy WoW Time Card and Become a Criminal Accomplice, Nice!

Ever saw a 60-day time card selling for insanely low prices on WoW Gold sites? Did you almost take the bait only to be stopped by your Spider sense telling you that this is a very bad idea of epically disastrous proportions ?

Good job, kiddies.

You just avoided a rap sheet that will include being an accessory to credit card fraud and online theft. (Sorry, watching too much Law & Order reruns lately). Because something seemingly as harmless as buying game time is actually helping criminals thousands of miles outside of US jurisdiction.

“How the hell does that happen?” Answer: 99 times out of 100, the game time you’re buying for cheap it was bought with a stolen credit card. That’s why it’s priced so low – their cost of acquisition is zero and everything is pure profits for them!

“How did they steal the credit card?” Answer: From unsuspecting WoW Gold buyers who gleefully turned over their credit card details thinking that they would honor financial laws.

It’s easier to explain this string of scams with a visual example. Take CheapWoWGolds.com , which operates both a WoW Gold selling page and a game time selling page, for a big hypothetical example of how it goes down.

  1. 1. Gold seller obtains credit card info and cash from sold Gold
    2. Unauthorized use of credit card to purchase game time cards
    3. Gold seller sells game time cards and gets more cash
    4. Credit card owner/PayPal/Blizzard catch up to the fraud and cancels everything leaving you with no game time.

The grand moral of this convoluted story: NEVER trust websites that sell both WoW Gold and time cards. Like CheapWoWGolds.com.

But I’m totally not saying that they defraud customers. No siree, that would be serious libel. I have zero proof that they’re a nasty bunch of scammers. They’re probably part of the 1% who do things decently. Because they so look like the types, don’t they, with their brilliant copy and unvarnished customer reputation , right? Right?

Straight from the Spam Bag: VIVOGAME.COM Cons with Dragons

There’s nothing like mounts to get a WoW player’s attention – and hard-earned dollars.

In the case of ViVogame.com, it sends out newsletters designed to shock and awe, hoping readers will be dazed enough to click and buy WoW Gold. Just look at this latest doozy of an e-mail:

The choice of mounts has all the slickness of a professional burglar, I give them that.

Life-Binder’s Handmaiden and Reins of the Blazing Drake mounts are two of the rarest drop mounts in Patch 4.3. They know many players will want to know more about them. Random newbie clicks on the link but then, the switcheroo.

Newbie is led to WoW Gold buying page. Low prices convince him to try it out, not knowing the huge pain of ordering from ViVogame.com . As if reading the copy isn’t torture enough.

“Catch this rare chance right now”
“Action it as soon as possible”

In their twisted world, nouns become verbs and something as elusive as chance can be caught like a freaking football. Oh, and promo codes don’t have discounts or bonuses.

ViVogame should take a page from the pro playbook of IGE.com. The latest IGE sweepstakes has plenty of legitimate winners, decent enough WoW Gold prizes, and a 10% bonus code just for liking their page.

Now that’s how you run a real promotion.

Steam Hack Means It’s Time to Change Your Battle.Net Password

Following Steam’s revelations that some of their user account information has been compromised under "an illegal and unauthorized" intrusion to their network, I’m here to repeat Blizzard’s warning: CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD.

If you used the same password in your Steam forum and Battle.net account, then you face the greatest risk of them all. Don’t sleep tonight without following the account safety tips from Blizzard .

Not terribly concerned because you have no WoW Gold worth stealing?

Well, there are nastier, more humiliating things that hackers can do with your stolen account. They can strip your toons bare naked, vendor the items, and then use them as spam peddlers in the capitals.

You wouldn’t want that. Even I wouldn’t wish that for my worst enemies.

KB8GOLD.COM / BEST4U.COM: BEST IN CRAPPY SERVICE MAYBE

kb8goldcom-best4ucom

Much to the chagrin of my detractors, I’m actually a pretty fair guy. I may get overboard with the put-downs and name-calling, but I never fabricate accusations just because a Chinese gold seller’s website made me 10 IQ points dumber.

Believe me; I’ve been tempted a million times to trash for trashing’s sake. But I still believe in professionalism (not to be confused with professioneering in the game).

With that said, here is a classic case of finger-pointing between WoWGoldFacts reader Gabriel M. and his poison of choice kb8gold.com now known as best4u.com.

Let’s start with a little backgrounder shall we?

Gabriel M. wrote:

“I grew tired of our expensive server and decided to risk my account and buy some gold. At the time, there was a spammer in our trade chat and without thinking I jumped on their site. (first mistake).

Looking back at things, the awful looking website was the first clue that this might not work out well but the prospect of finally getting those items I have been farming gold for drove me right off the cliff.

After placing an order, the spammer on our server contacted me telling me the seller was on his way. About an hour later, seeing the spammer was still in our trade chat I asked him for an update.

He replied that the gold was delivered over 45 min ago to this other character. When I asked why he delivered to another character he told me to shut up and stop trying to scam him.

A chat on their "online chat support" was not helping either.”

gabriel-m-live-chat

So far, so terrible, if we are to believe Gabriel M.

This longer e-mail exchange with the same chat support PenPenny shows that when cornered with accusations, the “service” part of customer service gets thrown out the window.

kb8goldcom-customer-disservice-chat

Gabriel M. would have enough evidence to convict the squealing PenPenny if only he’d saved the screenshots of misdelivery, but he said he had “thrown away” the files.

So we’re left to choose between two conflicting stories:

1. Young player, buys Gold, waits for it, while “another character” possibly a double created by the kb8gold.com. Player is $30 poorer and the other is $30 richer.
2. Innocent Chinese seller, staffed with competent delivery toons and customer service agents, does send out the Gold and tries to defend itself against the tricks of a devious player.

Who do you think is lying? 99-1 it’s Gabriel M. who was scammed.

With Gabriel M. losing his proof and the other being wholly uncooperative – I’ve reached out to kb8gold.com / best4u.com for comment but have been met with a wall of silence – there is a sliver of a chance that this could be a big smear campaign.

But it’s highly unlikely. Fine, for the sake of fairness and wacky doodleness, let’s say that kb8gold.com / best4u.com was telling the truth.

It still doesn’t excuse the gutterspeak that spewed forth from PenPenny’s keyboard.

Threatening customers defamation on Facebook? Leaving the chat prematurely because he couldn’t take a little pressure?

Kb8gold.com / best4u.com was lucky they had a more forgiving adversary in Gabriel M. “But that’s OK, is 30 USD I can live without…. Lesson learned. Research your purchase,” he offered in e-mail.

If I was in his shoes, I’d have enough forceful words to make that punk poop.
