REAL ID: REAL NAMES FOR YOU TO STALK?
Um, so who likes Real ID?
I know you can decline requests from strangers and weirdoes alike but it gives me the heebie-jeebies seeing names of real people in someone else’s roster, knowing anyone with enough curiosity can look them up in Facebook.
Like Cletus, for one.
After seeing the female names on a friend’s list, he quickly turned to Facebook to check out "the goodies" and proceeded to recite a litany of comments:
"Woohoo, hot hot hot mamacita!"
"Is that a man or a woman?"
"Wasn’t she the prostitute I did in Puerto Rico?"
"She must be at least 60 years old."
"This one ate too many lard sandwiches."
I asked Cletus how sure he was that those were the WoW-playing chick pals of his friend. He gave me a look that said I must be missing a hundred IQ points.
"Duh, see the words World of Warcraft in their Likes and Interests?"
/sigh
I told him to stop stalking people, for the love of everything that is good and holy.
"Kk, fine. I might just be wasting my time. Too many ugly women on our server."
Groans.
So…who likes Real ID?

It is a little bit on the creepy side, but I have to admit, I rather like that I can chat cross faction, cross server and cross game platform. *Shrug* I suppose you just don’t friend people, or tell people your battle.net email address unless you want to chat with them any time you’re playing.
I kind of like it. I’ve missed my Hordie friends now that I’m playing Alli.

It’s got its pluses and minuses. I like it that I can chat with my friends who are on different realms. The down side is the loss of some privacy — I’m one of those people who have low level alts you jump on when you want to escape guild drama, or just don’t feel like chatting with anyone. This completely slipped my mind when I said goodbye to my Real ID friends/guildies and told them I had to retire for the night…and I switched to my alt on another server to level it a bit and they were all like, I thought you needed to go to bed!
