WOW: MOST SOPHISTICATED HAPPINESS ENGINE ON EXHIBIT

"WoW is the most sophisticated happiness engine that exists now." -Dr. Jane McGonigal

Amen, Doc. Couldn’t have said it better myself.

Anyhoo, I should have written this post much, much, much sooner but too many things got in the way of my being a mouthpiece for all things WoW. Currently on exhibit at the Laguna Art Museum are the works of Blizzard’s finest game designers, including Sam Didier and Chris Metzen, as well as selected artists from different cities in Azeroth this world. The museum’s website describes the exhibition as something that "looks at at artistic practices that have been inlfuenced by game culture. The actual works by the producer of World of Warcraft, Blizzard Entertainment (headquartered in Irvine, California), provide a starting point and reference.

Fourteen international artists were selected to consider this movement with the following themes in mind: elements of desire, the collapse of fantasy, medievalism, creative critiques, and public intervention.  Artists in this exhibition take on the visual marker of World of Warcraft® to consider, implications of gaming, and their greater impact on our culture.  In addition to the works of these artists, fan art and the growing culture of machinima (computer animation that uses the graphic engines from video games) will be explored in this exhibition. "

The exhibit runs until October 14. Catch it while it’s still there, kiddies! Man, I’d kill just to have Sam Didier’s autograph, but that would be a crime, right? So is stealing on of his creations from the museum. Dang, where’s a Level 80 Rogue when you need someone to filch something and take the fall?

Kidding.

In other news, my alt huntard has a new pet:

New Pet Spawn of Uvuros

Ain’t he a beaut? Spawn of Uvuros, the only one ambling along the lava-riddled terrain of Shadowmoon Valley. Spews a double gout of molten lava for fire damage and reduces the target’s casting speed. I killed his dad first (could have tamed the father but I hated him too much and his knockback packed too much of a powerful punch, I was sent flying all the way back to the Truman administration).

After killing Uvuros with the help of a pally and a DK, I left the party to track down his precious spawn and tame him. I died four times trying to tame this son of a @#$%. But hell, he’s worth the pain and corpse run. He’ll make a lovely tank, I could just picture him sending all those gnomes ogres flying in different directions.

So how was your weekend?
